Health Insurance and Dental Insurance
The 1st of the month following 28 days of eligible service, residents/clinical fellows are eligible to participate in
one of two health insurance plans and a dental insurance plan.
The biweekly 2008 medical insurance premium rates are:
Alliance Select Medical Plan Dental Care and Vision Services
Plus
Life Insurance
All full-time residents/clinical fellows receive coverage at two times their annual stipend. Supplemental Life
Insurance, Dependent Life Insurance and Accidental Death & Dismemberment plans are available at the
resident’s/clinical fellow’s expense.
Long Term Disability Insurance
The Long Term Disability Insurance plan pays 60% of the base pay. There is a 180 consecutive day elimination
period. There is an own occupation. Disability definition for 60 months. There is no personal expense.
Short Term Disability Insurance
Under the Short Term Disability program the first five consecutive days of each absence for illness/disability will
be paid out of PTO (paid time off) for illness/disability, if available. Following the first five consecutive days of an
absence, the resident/clinical fellow will receive 80% pay for the next six weeks followed by 60% pay for the
following six weeks. The resident/clinical fellow may elect to supplement short term disability pay with PTO, if
available.
Professional Liability Insurance
All Alliance Hospitals provide professional liability insurance coverage for activities within the scope of the
assigned program. The professional liability insurance will provide coverage for all activities that are part of the
training program, and at all sites to which the resident is assigned as part of the training program. The
professional liability insurance is of the occurrence type.
Pension
Employment with any of our Alliance Hospitals requires participation in Social Security. Residents/clinical fellows
may voluntarily contribute pre-tax dollars in a 403(b) program by working with one of the five exclusive tax
deferred annuity providers.
Paid Time Off (PTO)
Per academic year, residents will receive 20 days of vacation (the equivalent of 4 weeks per year) and 5 days of
sick leave. Vacation is to be taken at the mutual convenience of the resident and the program director. The
standard vacation increment is a two week block. PTO may not be carried over from year to year.
Tuition Reimbursement
100% reimbursement for eligible course work when you receive a grade of C or better at accredited institutions.
For eligible courses, the plan pays up to $3,000 per calendar year (full-time residents/clinical fellows).
Meal Allowance
A meal allowance will be added to the resident’s/clinical fellow’s base pay based on frequency of assigned house
call. Each program must designate for each resident level whether there is high frequency (in-house call > 1 in
4), moderate frequency (in-house call 1 in 5 or 6), low frequency (in-house call < 1 in 6), or no call. Meal
allowance of $1,000 (high frequency), $500 (moderate frequency), $100 (low frequency) or $0 (no call), will be
added to the paycheck.
Uniform Allowance
An annual clothing allowance is added to the resident’s/clinical fellow’s base pay. $150 at the PGY-1 and $125
at all other levels will be rolled into the stipend.
Pre-Employment Drug Screening and Investigative Inquiry
All offers to join any one of our Alliance Hospitals residency training program, including those through a national
matching program, such as the NRMP, or by the Department Chairman or Program Director, are considered
conditional. The conditional offer is based upon the satisfactorily passing of a drug screen test and pre-
employment inquiry concerning criminal history. Refusal to sign the consent form for the drug screen and/or
investigative inquiry will result in the withdrawal of the employment offer.
