Health Insurance and Dental Insurance
The 1st of the month following 28 days of eligible service, residents/clinical fellows
are eligible to participate in one of two health insurance plans and a dental
insurance plan.
The biweekly 2007 medical insurance premium rates are:

Life Insurance
All full-time residents/clinical fellows receive coverage at two times their annual
stipend. Supplemental Life Insurance, Dependent Life Insurance and Accidental
Death & Dismemberment plans are available at the resident’s/clinical fellow’s
expense.
Long Term Disability Insurance
The Long Term Disability Insurance plan pays 60% of the base pay. There is a
180 consecutive day elimination period. There is an own occupation. Disability
definition for 60 months. There is no personal expense.
Short Term Disability Insurance
Under the Short Term Disability program the first five consecutive days of each
absence for illness/disability will be paid out of PTO (paid time off) for
illness/disability, if available. Following the first five consecutive days of an
absence, the resident/clinical fellow will receive 80% pay for the next six weeks
followed by 60% pay for the following six weeks. The resident/clinical fellow may
elect to supplement short term disability pay with PTO, if available.
Professional Liability Insurance
Our Hospital provides professional liability insurance coverage for activities within
the scope of the assigned program. The professional liability insurance will
provide coverage for all activities that are part of the training program, and at all
sites to which the resident is assigned as part of the training program. The
professional liability insurance is of the occurrence type.
Pension
Employment with in our Hospital currently requires participation in Social Security.
Residents/clinical fellows may voluntarily contribute pre-tax dollars to a retirement
plan sponsored by Fidelity and Mercy Health Partners. .
Paid Time Off (PTO)/Vacation
Per academic year, residents will receive 20 days of vacation (the equivalent of 4
weeks per year) and 5 days of sick leave. Vacation is to be taken at the mutual
convenience of the resident and the program director. The standard vacation
increment is a two week block. PTO may not be carried over from year to year.
Tuition Reimbursement
100% reimbursement for eligible course work is available under certain
circumstances. If eligible, the plan pays up to $3,000 per calendar year (full-time
residents/clinical fellows).
Meal Allowance
A meal allowance will be added to the resident’s/clinical fellow’s base pay based
on frequency of assigned house call. Meal allowance of $1,000 (high frequency),
$500 (moderate frequency), $100 (low frequency) or $0 (no call), will be added to
the paycheck.
Uniform Allowance
Two uniforms are provided for each resident at the beginning of the academic
year..
Pre-Employment Drug Screening and Investigative Inquiry
All offers to join any residency training program, including those through a
national matching program, such as the NRMP, or by the Department Chairman
or Program Director, are considered conditional. The conditional offer is based
upon the satisfactorily passing of a drug screen test and pre-employment inquiry
concerning criminal history. Refusal to sign the consent form for the drug screen
and/or investigative inquiry will result in the withdrawal of the employment offer.
